Parish Purpose

​Why do we exist? This is the most fundamental question for any organization and perhaps most important for the most important organization in the world, the Catholic Church. And while the purpose of the Catholic Church is clear, to bring all to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, the existence of parishes in certain localities in certain cultures begs the question of how we make the mission of the Church fruitful here in Carmichael. Below is our purpose statement.

St. John the Evangelist Parish exists to radiate the love of Christ so that all may be fully alive in Him.

How do we behave? These are the core values that are critical to success if we are going to fulfill our purpose. We hope that everyone who enters the doors of our parish community experiences all of these behaviors and comes to know the love of Christ through them.

What do we do? These are the critical ways in which we make the purpose of our parish come alive. We also call this our mission statement. Inspired by the example of St. Katharine Drexel we strive to serve the Lord and our parish by the following:

We form missionary disciples - through reverent celebration of the sacraments, intentional communal life, ongoing formation, excellent catholic education, service to the marginalized, and a bold proclamation of the gospel.

How will we succeed? Our strategic anchors are the means by which we make decisions in the parish that will be successful and bring much fruit. 

​

Reverent and Beautiful: We don’t settle for mediocrity. Point people toward the mystery of Christ through intentionality.

​

Show That We Care: We create an environment in the parish and school where people experience authentic Christian charity.

​

Pathway to Encounter: Everything we do is an opportunity for, or a step toward encounter with Christ and missionary discipleship.
